Edward C. Freni
Edward C. Freni currently serves as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) effective as of November 3, 2023. As Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Port Authority, Freni will oversee the $1 billion organization with more than 1,300 employees and a portfolio of transportation assets including Boston Logan International Airport, Worcester Regional Airport, Hanscom Field, Conley Container Terminal and Flynn Cruiseport Boston, as well as property in East Boston, South Boston, and Charlestown. Massport’s mission is to connect Massachusetts and New England to the world in support of the Commonwealth’s economic development and transportation goals, while demonstrating a commitment to neighboring communities and sustainability. On an annual basis, Massport and its facilities generate $22 billion of economic value for the Commonwealth.
Freni will also continue as Massport’s Director of Aviation, a role that he has served in since 2007. As Director of Aviation he is responsible for administering, coordinating and managing airside and landside activities at all three Massport aviation facilities. In 2000, he joined Massport as the Director of Aviation Operations with primary responsibility for managing the airports’ daily operations, facilities, and public services.
Freni has decades of experience in the aviation industry, including at Massport and having worked for many years at American Airlines where he served as the General Manager for the airline’s Logan Airport station, with responsibility for more than 2,000 employees.
Freni received his Bachelor of Science from the Whittemore School of Business at the University of New Hampshire.
He was the Captain of the University of New Hampshire 1973-74 Championship Hockey Team.
