First Lady Lauren Baker & Massport Officially Open New Children’s Literature Exhibit at Logan

“Massachusetts: Where Imagination Comes to Life” showcases children’s authors from the Commonwealth

BOSTON – First Lady of Massachusetts Lauren Baker, Hudson Group and the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) gathered together today with some special friends, including Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog, to officially open “Massachusetts: Where Imagination Comes to Life,” a new exhibit showcasing some of the Commonwealth’s vibrant children’s literature authors and illustrators.

Massachusetts is also home to some of the world’s most beloved children’s book characters that grew from the imagination of extraordinarily talented authors and illustrators based in the Commonwealth. Favorites like A Very Hungry Caterpillar, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George – just to name a few – have all come to life in Massachusetts. 

“I am proud to join Massport in celebrating the Commonwealth’s local authors and illustrators who have helped inspire children around the world to love reading,” said First Lady Lauren Baker. “The children’s literature exhibit will continue to bring joy to children passing through Logan Airport for years to come.”  

Inspired by an article by James Cullen in The Boston Globe last April on how Western Massachusetts has become a center for children’s literature authors, Massport officials, Linda Pizzuti Henry of The Boston Globe and Hudson Group, came together to develop this exhibit now brought to life for all who visit Terminal C to enjoy. Hudson Group has also opened a companion store to the exhibit down the hall, featuring local authors and artists’ work for curious kids and their families to check out before or after they fly.

Today’s event saw authors Susie Rich (“Too Much Hopscotch”), Anna Alter (“Sprout Street Neighbors”), Jeff Kinney (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series) and author/illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka (“Lunch Lady” series) meet and greet second graders from the James Otis Elementary School in East Boston, Logan Airport’s host community, and First Lady of Massachusetts Lauren Baker read to them.

Boston Logan International Airport is not just a place to catch a flight; it is a place to connect Massachusetts to the world. This exhibit is designed to educate and excite both children and adults as they make their way on a trip or come back home. Showcasing beloved and familiar characters such as Curious George, The Cat in the Hat, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, this new exhibit will help our youngest travelers feel the comfort of familiar literary friends and the thrill of seeing them in an unexpected place.

“This exhibit highlights another incredible facet of all Massachusetts has brought to the world and I am proud Massport was able to work with local authors and illustrators and Hudson Group to bring it to life,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “I look forward to seeing children’s faces light up as they see a familiar friend like Clifford or George up on the wall here at Logan.”

Massport has brought dozens of cultural exhibits to the halls and gates of Logan Airport, celebrating the vibrancy and variety of the place we call home. From Nobel Prize winners in Terminal E, to the Head of the Charles Regatta in Terminal B and the Innovation Wall in Terminal C, we hope travelers and locals alike are inspired, awed and educated by all the achievements, inventions, accomplishments and innovations found here in the Commonwealth.
