Massport to Resume HOV Service to Peabody with New and Improved Location

Offering a more convenient location for Logan Express passengers

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) is pleased to announce plans to resume HOV service to Peabody with a new, more convenient location to serve the North Shore and beyond. Beginning Sunday, February 13th, the Peabody Logan Express (LEX) will provide hourly bus service between the Northshore Mall and Boston Logan International Airport. The previous location along Rt. 1 South in Peabody, which closed due to low passenger activity earlier in the pandemic, is no longer in service.

“I applaud Massport for their continued commitment to provide affordable and convenient HOV service to travelers and airport employees,” said Massport Board Member John Nucci. “This transportation option helps reduce roadway congestion that impacts our neighboring communities. I encourage more people to ride Logan Express.”

“As traffic continues to increase and return to pre-pandemic levels,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Jamey Tesler, “Logan Express service will continue to be an important, efficient and reliable transportation option for anyone using Logan Airport in Boston. We appreciate the support of municipal officials, local leaders, and the business community for helping Massport plan and open this new location which will make it easy for community members to use public transportation for their trips.”

“Thanks to our partnership with the City of Peabody, state elected officials, and Simon Property Group, we are excited to offer this new Logan Express location for travelers coming from the North Shore and points north,” said Massport Aviation Director Ed Freni. “We thank our passengers for their patience during the closure while we strategically reimagined a better service for them in Peabody. The Northshore Mall location provides our customers and employees improved service and a sustainable option to get to the airport.”

“We thank Massport for providing this important transportation option for the residents of Peabody and our neighboring communities,” said Peabody Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt, Jr. “The new location is centrally located, conveniently right off the highway, with great access to local shops and restaurants.”

The new Peabody Logan Express site is located in the area of 91 Essex Center Drive at the North Shore Mall, with easy access to Rt. 128, I-95, Rt. 1 and other local roadways. The bus service will have the following schedule:

“A strong regional HOV connection to Logan Airport from the North Shore is important,” said Senator Joan B. Lovely (D-Salem). “This is a great option for both travelers and employees that work at the airport. I am thankful for the hard work and partnership that made this possible, and that our constituents' voices were heard."

“My colleagues and I in the state government have made good, quality transit options a priority,” said Representative Thomas P. Walsh (D-Peabody). “This new location for Peabody Logan Express is a result of collaboration with Massport, the City of Peabody, and commitment to our constituents.”

“Northshore Mall is very pleased to have collaborated with the officials at Massport, our state legislative representatives, Mayor Bettencourt and the City Council on creating a new Logan Express location,” said Northshore Mall Manager Mark Whiting. “The new Logan Express operation will serve residents living North of Boston and along the seacoast of New Hampshire. We are confident that both Northshore Mall and Logan Express can now always be associated with convenience and great service as part of a fantastic travel experience.”

Massport is currently running a special price for Logan Express e-tickets through the end of June 2022. LEX e-tickets are only $9 each way when purchased in advance online at LoganExpress.com or through the FlyLogan App.

Prior to the pandemic, LEX was the seventh largest transit system in Massachusetts. Massport also runs LEX buses to Braintree, Framingham and Woburn. Massport’s long-term goal is to encourage more than half our annual passengers to use HOV modes, and for ridership on Logan Express to reach 4 million passengers.
