Massport, Lyft Sign Agreement on Passenger Fees

Deal underscores commitment to enhanced service for passengers

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and Lyft have reached a tentative agreement, pending a vote at Massport’s board meeting tomorrow, that will improve access for rideshare users and drivers at Boston Logan International Airport. At the same time, the agreement aims to reduce congestion and raise revenue that will improve airport infrastructure and enable continued passenger growth.

“Massport’s new agreement with Lyft improves the rider experience, establishes new, cheaper ways to get to Boston Logan and helps mitigate traffic around the airport and our surrounding neighborhoods. We thank Lyft for their collaboration and commitment to our passengers,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey. “As Boston Logan continues to grow, we expect even more travelers to use Ride Apps.

We need to improve the infrastructure to support them, as well as our other ground transportation services so we are able to move more passengers with the least impact.”

The terms of the agreement include the following:
•Massport to pilot expanded curbside access for rideshare users.
•Lyft to launch its Shared product allowing shared-ride service at Boston Logan, enabling shared rides to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and launching a last-mile program to encourage the use of Logan Express.
•Lyft to enhance its Rematch feature by extending the time window in which drivers who complete a drop-off can accept a pickup request.
•Lyft and Massport will collaborate to introduce an urban shuttle service at Boston Logan, providing riders with an affordable curbside shuttle option while further reducing single-occupancy trips.

"Lyft appreciates the productive conversations we've been able to have with Massport since their initial announcement,” said Brendan Joyce, Public Policy Manager at Lyft. “While we still have concerns about increasing fees on riders, this is a step in the right direction. It allows us to improve the rider experience at Logan as we continue to look for ways to equitably fund the airport's future success.”

To support essential capital improvements, a one-time per-trip fee increase from $3.25 to $5.50 will take effect on July 1, 2025. Lyft Share trips will be subject to a $1.50 per-trip fee.

The terms of this agreement will be voted on at the Massport Board Meeting tomorrow.
