Passengers that park at the airport generate two vehicle trips, while passengers that are picked up or dropped off generate four trips — creating more congestion and vehicle emissions. More on airport parking spaces will benefit the environment by eliminating greenhouse emissions generated through dropoffs and pickups.
In Phase 1 of the Logan Parking Program, we will be adding 2,000 new spaces at Terminal E. In Phase 2, we will add an additional 3,000 spaces at the Economy Garage. Through the creation of up to 5,000 new parking spaces, the Logan Airport Parking Program hopes to reduce the number of passengers opting for personal dropoffs and pickups because they fear they will not get a parking spot. The increase in available parking spaces is not only good service for our customers, it’s good for the environment.
The benefits of new commercial parking spaces include:
- Reduced passenger anxiety about the time it takes to find a space.
- Reduced need to divert or valet park customer vehicles during busy travel periods.
- Decrease in unnecessary driving around the airport to search for parking.
- Reduced emissions from excess driving around the airport and extra trips for pickup and dropoff.
- Reduced overall vehicle miles traveled and less congestion through the tunnels and on Route 1A.
- Built entirely within the airport's existing footprint.
