At the Airport
Security Information
Safety and security are top priorities at Boston Logan.
We are proud to partner with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to keep our passengers and community safe during travel.
Boston Logan International Airport is open 24 hours a day, but when the security checkpoints are closed, passengers are required to stay in the public, pre-security areas until the TSA reopens them.
Security Checkpoints
All security checkpoints at Boston Logan are operated by the TSA. Security checkpoints normally open one hour prior to the first departure of the day. Please check with your airline or the TSA directly for information regarding specific checkpoint hours of operation.
Security checkpoints are located in each terminal (A, B, C and E) for our passengers' convenience. TSA PreCheck is available in all terminals. CLEAR is available to passengers traveling through Terminals A and B.
Massport works with the TSA to monitor security line length and wait times. We recommend arriving two hours prior to domestic departures and three hours prior to international departures to ensure adequate time for check-in, security screening and travel to your gate.
For information on what’s allowed in your carry-on, identification requirements, the TSA’s use of advanced imaging technology and other questions related to security checkpoints at Boston Logan, please visit the TSA’s website.
CLEAR allows members to skip the airport security line and go straight to screening at security. It is now available in Terminals A and B.
International Travel
We are proud to connect Boston and New England to the world. International travelers should be aware of entry requirements at both Boston Logan and your destination. Contact your airline or U.S. Customs and Border Protection for more information.

Global Entry is available to passengers at Boston Logan traveling through customs in Terminal E. This program allows passengers to bypass the customs line when entering the U.S.
Helpful Travel Tips
Pack Smart
Pack smart to get through security faster. Keep luggage organized by layering items; this will increase visibility for the security officers.
Be Prepared
When approaching the security checkpoint, be prepared. Your boarding pass and IDs should be ready for inspection; outer garments and shoes must come off. Laptop computers must be removed from bags and placed in a bin for screening.
Traveling with Children?
Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding 3.4 oz (100ml) and are not required to be in a zip-top bag; however, you must declare these items for inspection at the security checkpoint.
Traveling with Gifts
Bringing food or gift items home for the holidays? All gifts must be unwrapped for screening (including gifts in checked baggage).
Traveling with Batteries
Traveling with battery-powered hobby items, toys, or equipment? Be sure to know the rules for checked and carry-on luggage.
Traveling with Firearms
In partnership with the TSA, we would like to remind our valued passengers about important federal regulations regarding traveling with firearms and munitions.
