Hanscom Field

Laurence G. Hanscom Field (BED) is the region’s premier full-service general aviation airport and serves a vital role as the general aviation reliever for Boston Logan International Airport. Located in Bedford, MA, just 20 miles northwest of Boston, Hanscom Field is conveniently close to Route 128 with easy access to Greater Boston and the MetroWest high-technology corridor, and provides safe and reliable airport service for private and corporate aircraft.

Hanscom Field is home to two flight schools and several fixed-base operators (FBO). It is the region’s largest general aviation airport and a vital link in the transportation infrastructure of Massachusetts and New England, housing private and corporate aircraft of all sizes and offering limited commercial service.

A history of aviation

A major part of local aviation since 1941, Hanscom Field has a rich history and was predominately used for military operations in its first decades. Today, Hanscom Field is a regional aviation facility whose major users are a mix of corporate aviation, private pilots, flight schools, commuter/commercial air services, charters and light cargo.

Fly Friendly

In partnership with the local community, aviation groups, and Minute Man National Historical Park (MMNHP), Massport has developed a noise abatement program for Hanscom Field. The program, known as Fly Friendly, promotes safe and quiet flying techniques while addressing noise concerns at the airfield.
