Coastal Cement is a Massport tenant that uses Berth 1 at Black Falcon Avenue in South Boston to import cement to a nearby shipping and distribution terminal on Dry Dock Avenue. The import of bulk products like cement provides supplemental revenue for Massport and helps to diversify our maritime business line.

Coastal partnered with Massport to expand the throughput of the berth so it can continue meeting the needs of local construction industry customers. Massport performed the maintenance dredging that allows Berth 1 to accommodate the larger ships that Coastal will deploy to deliver more cement product. Coastal, in turn, made additional investments in the berth and high-speed offloading equipment. Together these improvements effectively double the berth’s cement throughput capacity.

Coastal Cement and Massport handled nearly 120,000 metric tons of cement through Boston in calendar year 2022.
