Planning and Development
Massport owns a large amount of waterfront property throughout Boston. Long-term planning and daily management related to Massport's waterfront development properties is overseen by Economic Planning and Development Department. Industrial facilities are managed by the Maritime Department.
Aside from Boston Logan International Airport, Massport owns, manages, or ground leases approximately 585 acres of maritime, industrial, and commercial waterfront property (including both land and water area) in South Boston, East Boston and Charlestown, including the following facilities:
Approximately 45 acres of non-airport waterfront property in the East Boston Piers area, which includes East Boston Piers Park, the East Boston Shipyard, and Piers 1-5.
Approximately 285 acres of land in South Boston, which includes the Boston Fish Pier, the Seaport Boston World Trade Center, Conley Container Terminal, Massport Marine Terminal, Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, the Fargo Street Terminal, the Seaport Boston Hotel, and other industrial and commercial properties.
Approximately 90 acres of land in Charlestown including the commercial development at Hoosac Pier and the maritime/industrial facilities at Boston Autoport, Mystic Pier 48, and the Medford Street Terminal.
Headquarters Hotel Project
A Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued by Massport and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority on October 31, 2014 for the development of a headquarters hotel on two Massport-owned parcels located on Summer Street in proximity to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Responses are due on February 17, 2015.
Only those Development Entities and Hotel Brands and Operators previously qualified by the Authorities during the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) phase of this project are eligible to respond to this RFP. Qualified Development Entities and Hotel Brands and Operators are listed in Appendix 2 of the RFP.
