Kathy West has been Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities at Partners HealthCare since 1998 with responsibility for the strategic management of a broad portfolio of over 16 million square feet of owned and leased property at two academic medical centers, community hospitals, specialty hospitals, and community health centers. West oversees a broad range of corporate real estate functions, including the coordination and permitting of large-scale development projects; planning and construction activities valued at approximately $300 million annually; professional real estate services; and sustainable initiatives and energy conservation programs. She has been instrumental in the sustained growth of the Partners network from 9.5 million square feet in 1997 to over 16 million square feet in 2011.
Prior to joining Partners, West was Associate Dean for Operations at Harvard Medical School from 1992 to 1997, where she was responsible for the management of all campus real estate, off-site commercial and residential properties, and the administrative services of this research and teaching institution. She oversaw provision of all facilities management, construction and renovation, environmental health and safety, energy management, and support services. From 1989 to 1992, she served as Director of Real Estate Development at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
West earned her BA in Government at Smith College and received an MBA with high honors from Boston University. She is on the Board of Directors Management Committee of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), is an active member of New England Women in Real Estate (NEWIRE), is Assistant Chair of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), is Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Boston Center for the Arts and serves on the Board of Trustees of Lasell College in Newton, MA.
